Course Summary
This course is designed to be a primarily ‘hands on’, scenario-based class. Students will receive a short review of the critical information needed to perform their mission as Primary Screeners. Following the review, REST staff will use an array of equipment to
navigate the students through simple and complex scenarios without being exposed to ionizing radiation, allowing for several hours of safe ‘meter time’.
Emergency Managers and Planners are welcome to attend these courses to familiarize
themselves with this vital mission; PRD certification or use is not required to attend.

This course is intended for Responders who are already certified as FEMA-Trained PRND Secondary Screeners.
PRND Secondary Screener Operations
Duration: 7.0 Hours (plus one additional hour for a catered lunch break)

This course is intended for Responders who are already certified as FEMA-Trained PRND Secondary Screeners. For Responders who do not require that certification, please refer to the RIID Operations for HazMat Teams Course on this page for a class better suited to your needs.
This in-depth, full day class is intended for Secondary Screeners who are assigned a RIID on a regular basis and could be requested to respond on short notice. The staff at REST will provide you with both the fundamental knowledge and best practices of RIID metering to
allow you to operate this critical instrument with confidence. Students will be presented with both basic and complex scenarios using a variety of live sources that will test your knowledge of isotopes, as well as provide you with resources to help you interpret the data
your meter is displaying. REST will provide students with a catered lunch.
Agencies who wish to send their Responders to this class will be expected to provide their own RIIDs and associated equipment; REST will not provide instruments for this course.

Course Summary:
This in-depth, class is intended for Primary Screeners who could be assigned a Man-Portable (Backpack) Detector as part of their duties. The staff at REST will provide you with both the fundamental knowledge and best practices of Backpack Operations to allow you to operate this critical instrument with confidence. Students will be presented with both basic and complex scenarios using a variety of live sources that will test your knowledge of detection, and if equipped, isotopes, as well as provide you with resources to help you interpret the data your detector is displaying.
Agencies who wish to send their Responders to this class will be expected to provide their own Backpacks and associated equipment; REST will not provide instruments for this course.
Emergency Managers and Planners are welcome to attend these courses to familiarize themselves with this vital mission; Backpack certification or use is not required to attend.

Law Enforcement - Radioactive Weapon Awareness
Law Enforcement Officers will almost always be the first of the First Responder Community to arrive on scene of a radioactive weapon attack. This course provides LEOs with the knowledge of impacts to their health should they encounter this form of weapon, and how to increase their safety both with and without a radiation detector.

Law Enforcement Officers of all ranks, LE Communications Staff
Course Summary:
Law Enforcement Officers will generally be the first on scene of a radioactive weapon attack, but most are not equipped with radiation detection meters. This course will allow LEOs to understand the risks to their personal health and safety while blindly responding to such an event, as well as how survivable they are. Basic self-decontamination steps and weapon system operations will be discussed. For Communications personnel, understand basic terminology for these types events, the necessity for immediate access to unusual data such as wind direction and the steps needed to keep your Officers safe.

EMS - Radioactive Weapon Awareness
Multiple EMS Teams will almost always be on scene of a radiaiton event prior to the discovery of its presence. This course provides EMTs, Paramedics and Supervisors with the knowledge of impacts to their health should they encounter this form of weapon, and how to increase their safety both with and without a radiation detector.

Course Summary:

This course will allow the EMS Community to understand the risks to their personal health and safety while blindly responding to such an event, as well as how survivable they are. Basic self-decontamination steps and contaminated ambulance rotations will be discussed.

This course is designed to train First Responder Operations level personnel to perform technical decontamination during a response to a hazardous materials incident.

Course Prerequisites / Requirements
- Valid First Responder – Operations certificate
- Signed medical release form from your agency or Physician approving your use of PPE, SCBA and/or APR

Course Summary:
This course focuses on the proper execution of decontamination during emergency operations. Participants will don and doff Level-B personal protective equipment and will perform decontamination in functional exercises. REST LLC will provide all consumable items necessary to complete this class, and participants will use a state-of-the-art simulation system allowing them to perform decon on live people, including radiological events.
This course meets or exceeds the requirements of Title 19 Section 1910.120(q)(8) CFR and is certified through CSTI.

RIID Operations for HazMat Teams
This course focuses on HazMat Teams and other responders who are equipped with a Radioisotope Identification Device (RIID) as part of their equipment loadout. Understanding its operation and translating the data it provides requires frequent refresher training, which this course provides.
